MVMS Music signup for 2026-27

We are gathering information to begin class scheduling for the 2026-2027 school year. In order to streamline this process, we need some information concerning your student entering 6th, 7th or 8th grade next year. We will need to know if your child will participate in band, chorus and/or orchestra.   These are the only specials that you may choose, the rest of the specials classes are distributed randomly. All students are required to take PE. Please complete all sections below.  PLEASE RESPOND EVEN IF ALL ARE NO.  Students can choose more than one!

The 5th graders will be trying out band instruments mid April so hopefully you will know soon if your 5th grader would like to participate in band next year and what instrument they will play.  The music teachers will also be talking to them about chorus, which they can participate in starting in 6th grade.

  • Specials: All students are required to take PE –
    • 5th grade (year long classes)
      • All 5th graders will have Art, PE, Spanish and a music class (either orchestra or General music)
    • 6th grade (year long classes)
      • Every student will have 4 specials. PE is required. The other three will be chosen from these possibilities: band, choir, orchestra, general music, Spanish and art. Students can take multiple elective music classes – (band, choir, orchestra)
    • 7th & 8th grade (PE, band, choir, orchestra are year long)
      • Any remaining spots will be chosen from the following semester-long classes: Art, Ag, Computer Design, General Music, Industrial arts, Spanish, ELP. Students can take multiple elective music classes – (band, choir, orchestra)
  • Just a reminder: the only classes you can choose are band, choir and orchestra.

This electronic form should be completed by Thursday, April 30,  2026 regardless of the choices indicated. If you have multiple children currently in 5th, 6th, or 7th grade, it is important that you fill out a separate electronic form for each child.

If you have any questions, please contact Patty Mote or Kim Fall at 319-895-6254. Thank you for taking the time to fill this out.
