Be Part of the Band: Save the Date!
All 5th grade students have the opportunity to learn about band instruments and join the MVMS 6th Grade Band. Please mark these dates on your family calendar so your student can Be Part of the Band!

Students Meet the Instruments: April General Music Class Unit
All 5th grade students will have the opportunity to learn about and try the various band instruments with the help of Mrs. Rodenberg and Mrs. Anderson during music class the week of April 13th. Orchestra students will have the chance to try band instruments the following week. You are welcome to set up a time to see your student try any instruments individually – contact Mrs. Rodenberg if you are interested.
You will also receive an email from the MVMS Office about signing up for band, choir, or orchestra classes for next year. If you are interested in joining band, please sign up now so you will continue to receive important information. Band can be added to your schedule up to the first week of school next fall, but it is best to get it in your schedule now!
Percussion Tryouts Wednesday, April 22, 3:15-4:15
All students interested in playing percussion (Drums) should plan to attend a tryout for the section after school in the band room. If you are unable to attend you can schedule another time with Mrs. Rodenberg. Students are required to attend a tryout to be in the percussion section.
Instrument Recommendations sent home Friday, May 1
Students will receive the results of their instrument testing, as well as important paperwork to help them get signed up for band!
Beginning Band Open House: Monday, May 11th, 6:00 in the MS Auditorium
All 5th graders interested in joining band and their families are invited to our Beginning Band Night! At this time families will have the opportunity to meet the band director, Elise Rodenberg; learn what is needed to join band; and the options available to rent or buy a band instrument from West Music. There will be a presentation at 6:00 followed by time for visiting with Mrs. Rodenberg, Mrs. Anderson, and the West Music store representatives.
Beginning Band Summer Lessons
We will have Group Band Lessons for each instrument the first full week in August. These are highly encouraged to get everyone ready for the start of the school year. More information on the group lessons will be available at the Beginning Band Night. Some options for private lessons over the summer are also available. Please contact Mrs. Rodenberg if you are interested in private summer lessons.
